New macOS App ‘Cats Lock’ Prevents Feline Keyboard Catastrophes
Breaking: Mac Owners Gain Relief from Cat-Induced Keyboard Chaos
Cat owners who use a Mac can now protect their work from curious paws with a new app named Cats Lock. The application, available on the Mac App Store, locks the keyboard when activated, preventing cats from triggering unintended keys or shortcuts.

Developed to address a common pet-owner frustration, Cats Lock offers a simple menu bar toggle or a custom keyboard shortcut to enable protection. It disables all key inputs, stopping cats from inadvertently closing documents, changing settings, or engaging in other disruptive actions.
‘A Life-Saver for Remote Workers’
“As more people work from home alongside pets, this kind of tool has become essential,” said Tech journalist and cat owner Samantha Reeves. “Cats love warm laptops, and they can cause real havoc in seconds.”
The app includes an optional sound-dampening feature to silence the constant beeping of held-down keys. Users can also set Cats Lock to emit deterrent sounds—like a barking dog or a vacuum cleaner—when a cat steps on the keyboard.
Background: A Common Problem
MacBooks are known for their warm surfaces, which attract cats seeking heat. Many users report their pets walking across keyboards, accidentally sending emails, deleting files, or activating obscure shortcuts that are difficult to reverse. Previously, putting the Mac to sleep was the only reliable solution, but it required manual intervention.

Cats Lock fills a niche by providing a targeted lock that stays active until the Mac goes to sleep, at which point it turns off to avoid locking the user out. Priced at just $2.99, it is an affordable fix for a widespread issue.
What This Means
For Mac-using cat owners, Cats Lock offers peace of mind and productivity protection. It allows users to step away without fear of their pet causing digital mayhem. The app’s deterrent sounds can even train cats to stay off the keyboard over time, according to early user feedback.
“I used to find myself frantically undoing my cat’s ‘work’ multiple times a day,” said beta tester Mark Lewis. “Now I just click the lock and feel safe. It’s a small investment for sanity.”
The app is compatible with recent macOS versions and can be downloaded directly from the Mac App Store.
Download and Availability
Cats Lock is available now for $2.99 on the Mac App Store. It supports macOS Catalina and later. No subscription or in-app purchases are required.
