Leaker Predicts Foldable iPhone Ultra Will Set New Standard for Repairability
Breaking: Leaker Claims Foldable iPhone Ultra Will Be Easiest to Repair
A prominent leaker known as Instant Digital today asserted that Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, expected to be called the "iPhone Ultra," will be the industry's most repairable foldable device. The claim, posted on Weibo, doubles down on a February report detailing the device's internal architecture.

According to Instant Digital, the phone's "incredibly rigorous underlying engineering logic" has resulted in a design that simplifies disassembly and repair. The leaker predicts that teardown videos will confirm this once the device ships later this year.
Design Details Reveal Modularity and Efficiency
Instant Digital described the internal component layout as "logical yet elegant," emphasizing that Apple has eliminated complex ribbon cable routing common in competing foldables. The leaker stated, "The design achieves a truly high level of modularity, making it far easier to replace parts."
Key to this repairability is the positioning of the motherboard on the right side of the device. Instead of routing cables across the screen to the left-side volume buttons, Apple reportedly runs them directly upward, freeing internal space. The internal stacking prioritizes the display and battery, with the battery said to be the largest ever in an iPhone.
Additional Features and Specifications
The foldable iPhone Ultra is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Other leaks suggest it will include the A20 chip, Apple's C2 modem, Touch ID, Camera Control, and two rear cameras. Volume buttons are reportedly moved to the top edge, while Touch ID and Camera Control sit on the right side.
Instant Digital previously reported that the device will be eSIM-only, ship in three storage capacities, and launch at around $2,000. The leaker also noted that Camera Control is considered a key feature internally.

Background: Instant Digital's Track Record
Instant Digital has a history of accurate predictions about Apple's foldable iPhone, including claims that production of foldable displays neared completion in March. The leaker's February report first detailed the button placement and camera bump design reminiscent of the iPhone Air.
The foldable iPhone Ultra is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in the fall of 2025. Given the leaker's prior accuracy, industry analysts are taking the repairability claims seriously.
What This Means for Consumers and the Industry
If these claims hold true, the iPhone Ultra could challenge the reputation of foldables as fragile, hard-to-repair devices. Easier disassembly may lower repair costs and extend the device's lifespan, appealing to both consumers and environmental advocates.
However, the $2,000 price point and limited availability may restrict initial adoption. Still, Apple's focus on repairability could pressure other manufacturers to follow suit, potentially reshaping the foldable market.
